One navigation system for a five-era app

A single web app-shell — sidebar, header, embedded clock-in, theme system — replacing navigation accreted across five product eras, shipped as a migration, not a cutover.

Problem

Navigation had accreted across five product eras — five mental models fighting inside one app.

Outcome

Measured

Clock Now held ~14k weekly users at ~89% completion through the migration, flat across 52 weeks.

The problem

Five product eras, five navigation paradigms, one app. Every new feature had added a new way to move around instead of a place to live.

Decisions & tradeoffs

Outcome

The riskiest number to hold: Clock Now — the single most-used action in the product — kept ~14k weekly users at ~89% completion through the entire migration, flat across 52 weeks (Amplitude-verified). A redesign that users didn't have to relearn.
